Due to the recent global situation, most people have been confined within four walls and separated from real communication.
But for a Canadian family, nothing has changed completely, because for about 30 years they have been living on a floating island.
Catherine King and Wayne Adams’ island is located off Vancouver Island. They named their building “Freedom Cove.”

They used to live in the city but always longed for the sea.
In the early 1990s, the couple decided to completely change their lifestyle: they moved from a rented house, sold all their properties, and started collecting recycled material to build a home.
The fact that they would be completely cut off from the outside world and would live in privacy did not scare the couple at all.

They were truly tired of the noisy city and the couple wanted to find peace in their floating home.
One day, after a storm, the ocean washed sturdy logs ashore, and Wayne used them to create a platform for the island.
He did it effortlessly because his profession is wood and stone carving.
Once the raft was prepared, he pulled it ashore and began building wooden structures on it.

The full shape of the floating island weighs 450 tons.
A house, a dance floor, an art gallery, a workshop, and a waterfall with running water have been placed on the wooden platform.
The nearest settlement is a 25-minute drive from the island. The platform moves freely. It is tethered by cables attached to the shore.
