Eleven hours had passed since takeoff, and for the passengers of United Flight 997, the time on board seemed endless. But something unexpected happened, taking up a lot of that time!
Tiani Warren had just returned from a three-week charity mission in Ghana and was heading home to Los Angeles, California, via Washington Dulles International Airport, when she heard groans coming from the seat behind her.
Turning around to see what was happening, she couldn’t believe what she saw.
The woman sitting in the row behind Tiana was giving birth! Luckily, one of the flight attendants was a former nurse and she helped the woman in labor as best she could.
Tiana struggled to recover from her shock and began to pray.
After a few long moments, the baby started crying, and this time, it was music to the passengers’ ears! Caring people quickly helped the mother get back in order and return to her place.
“Our crew demonstrated extraordinary professionalism and calmness,” the United airline statement said.
“They responded quickly, collaborated with medical professionals on board and ensured the safety of all passengers during the flight.
We were also touched by the way the plane landed with an additional, but particularly valuable, passenger on board. »
Paramedics met the plane on the runway to accompany the mother and newborn to the hospital. Everything went well during the checks, and in a few days they will be able to return home to New York.
