Child, Erin Radmann watched her great-grandmother, Rose, teach her things nobody else knew. The young woman shared a touching bond with the older woman, one that strengthened over time.
The young woman loved sharing photos of her great-grandmother on Instagram. She always celebrated Rose’s birthdays and made sure she felt special on her big day every year.
When Erin was 13, she made a promise to her great-grandmother, but she didn’t know when life would give her the chance to fulfill it.
She remembers, “I promised my grandmother that she would be my maid of honor at my wedding.”
At the time, the teenager didn’t know when or with whom she would marry, but she knew her loving grandmother would be her maid of honor.
Years later, the young woman found the love of her life and soon decided to marry him.
In January 2021, Erin’s lover proposed to her. After saying yes, she posted photos on Instagram to share the news of her engagement with the world.
Erin planned to marry her fiancé in 2022, so she began preparing for her big day in the summer of 2021. At that time, she remembered the promise she had made to Rose years before.
Instead of simply asking her grandmother to be her maid of honor, Erin Radmann had a beautiful idea. She gave Rose a necklace that came in a box with a message.
“Grandmother Rose, will you be my maid of honor? With love, Erin,” the letter said.
Since the young woman knew Rose’s reaction would be priceless, she decided to record it and post the video on Instagram. She sat at a table with Rose when she asked the elderly woman to read what was written inside the box.
The priceless moment came when the young woman handed a magnifying glass to her 101-year-old great-grandmother and waited for her to read the text. After reading the message, Rose asked, “You never gave up on me?”
“Will you be my maid of honor, please?” the girl asked, holding Rose’s arm. The woman was touched because her granddaughter still remembered the promise she had made to her over ten years ago.
“That’s fine. Will I have to learn to walk?” joked the elderly woman. Erin then reached out and asked Rose to promise her that she would be the maid of honor, after which they hugged each other tightly.
“You can wear this necklace on the day of my wedding!” the young woman added.
In October 2021, Erin Radmann celebrated Rose’s 102nd birthday, but after a few days, on October 13, the young woman posted photos on Instagram relating the sad news: “Yesterday we lost my sweet Grandma Rose.”
Rose closed her eyes months before Radmann’s big day, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t participate in her great-granddaughter’s wedding ceremony.
The young woman held the photo of her great-grandmother at her wedding ceremony in May 2022, where she was surrounded by friends and family.
“Thank you for being my maid of honor, watching from above,” the young woman said in a post.
After losing Rose, Erin missed her terribly and often cried while remembering their time together.
