For the 1990s, the birth of septuplets was a true miracle, as octuplets, nonuplets, and decuplets were to be born later.

An ordinary couple, Bobby and Kenny McCaughey, became famous on November 19, 1997. This was because Kenny gave birth to seven children on the same day, 4 boys and 3 girls.

All newspapers talked about this medical miracle, as such a case had never happened before.

After the first birth of the daughter Michaela, Kenny couldn’t get pregnant again. That’s why they decided to undergo IVF (In Vitro Fertilization).

In medicine, there are cases of twins and triplets, but this family had seven times the luck.

McCaughey didn’t discard any of the embryos for religious reasons, even though doctors warned of a risk of miscarriage and an unfavorable prognosis.

Kenny gave birth through a cesarean section, and each child weighed about a kilogram.

However, there were also complications. Due to a diagnosis of cerebral palsy, the two children, Nathan and Alexis, had to undergo multiple surgeries.

People from all over the world started helping the large family. A charitable foundation provided them with a spacious home. Even George W. Bush paid them a visit.

Later, all seven also received a college education and free meals.

To avoid a repeat of the sad story of the Dion quintuplets, the McCaugheys withdrew from the public eye until the children were ten years old.

The only media outlet allowed to film the septuplets once a year for a documentary was Dateline NBC.

Each of them has their own purpose in life, such as an IT professional, teacher, military personnel, singer, etc. – these are their preferred professions.

And when asked how the McCaughey spouses managed with so many children, the happy couple responds that it wasn’t easy, but having septuplets was the best way to get them all at once.
